Promoting live jazz in the community.
The Victorian Jazz Club, founded in 1968, has been catering for jazz lovers for the past 50 years and now boasts over 500 members.
While our core interest is trad jazz, we have begun to expand into contemporary jazz and swing which has broadened our membership and packed our dance floor.
We host regular live jazz performances at two venues: the Clayton RSL and the East Malvern RSL, and occasionally at other venues as well. Our regular events are on the 1st, 2nd and 4th Saturday nights of every month and on the 3rd Wednesday during the day at Clayton and one Wednesday night a month at East Malvern. We also host several other special functions during the year.
The Annual General meeting of the Victorian Jazz Club was held at Clayton RSL Thursday 24th May 2018 , and was attended by the usual interested members. The Committee was returned to office unopposed, but with with 4 members not renominating for varying reasons, those four places were filled by the following:
President Marg Hendrie welcomed Larisa and Rob as two of the swing dancing fraternity, and promised the swing-dancers that they will have the pick of the bands programmed being able to draw on this experience.
Marina Pollard has been a member of the VJC for many years, has served before on the committee, and has close ties with the Australian Jazz Museum, as well as running the Victorian Youth Jazz musicians workshops.
David Mudge has served in the role of Treasurer in other organizations and will be a great asset to the Club.
As this is the VJC’s 50th year of operations, it will be a very busy one for the Committee, organizing celebrations. Keep watching this space to see what will be happening between now and Xmas!
